My Next Project

As the fall season begins to emerge so does my next project. I have decided to make a coat! I first decided to make a coat when I was at RISD this summer and we went to the fabric store where I found this amazing blue, black, and white tweed fabric. It was just so cozy and beautiful that I knew that was what I had to do with it! It is my first coat and I do have to admit that I am rather nervous, but I'm the type of person that 1) does not let a challenge pass her by and 2) believes that it is better to learn by doing. So I am just going to jump into the project and hope that everything turns out well! So here is my design for my first coat ever! Wish me luck!

I Left My Heart at RISD

I often reference my summer at RISD where I studied fashion design, but I realize that I never gave any details about it or what I did there. Well, this summer was a life changing experience that I will never forget. Not only did I learn a lot about fashion and art, but I also learned a lot about my self. This summer was when I knew that I had to be in fashion and I could never do anything else. Before I went to RISD I knew I wanted to be in fashion, but the flame for my passion of designing was slowly dying. The moment I got to RISD and was living and breathing art and fashion design the flame grew rapidly inside of me. I was automatically filled with inspiration and creative energy (I probably sound crazy, but ask anyone who has a passion for anything and they will know exactly what I am talking about). When I say fashion makes me crazy, I really mean it. I was up till at least 3:30 AM each day working, yet I have never felt so energized.  I was walking around like a crazy person most of the time, my hair looked crazy, I never had any make up on, yet I miss looking like a mess all the time because it was worth it. (This from a girl who's look is always pulled together.) I was making things that I have never been more proud of and I was surrounded by people that became my family and they are the best friends that I have ever had. (To the Fam... I miss you all and love you like crazy!) Everyone there was filled with creativity and joy about what they were doing, they all had a passion inside of them. It was inspiring. RISD was an amazing experience and I am sure that I will tell you more about it again.

Free Art

This Is something that I did this summer for fun, A few of my friends and I were In the work room till 3AM painting (This is why I love art school). I just wanted to do something really free and with a lot of movement, So I drew a blind contour of one of my jewelry stands with charcoal, and then just started dripping water color down the page, later I added red and white acrylic paint accents.

Figure Drawing
This figure drawing uses a water a color base, pastel accents, and a charcoal blind contour line. Even though this piece isn't very literal, it is my favorite figure drawing that I did all summer. I love it because it has a lot of movement and is very free.

Summer Work

These are a few projects that I was assigned while spending my summer at the pre-college program at RISD

This project was called "The Personal Vision Project". The assignment was to create a line consisting of three pieces, a mood board, and swatch board to go along with it. My line was strongly inspired by the 20's, and peacocks. Now I didn't want to go and make three purple and green flapper dresses but I really wanted to express the feel of the twenties in my clothes, the fun and glamour aspects. I dont like to take my inspirations literally because I feel that it limits my range of design options. As for the peacock inspiration I was thinking more about their natural elegance and beauty and the way that they move (even though peacocks are supposed to be rather vicious creatures, but like I said I'm not taking this literally!) as well as their beautiful colored feathers. Thats why If you take a look at the mood board you will see things like flappers, peacocks, and various symbols of glamour.

 Any Comments or Criticism?

This project was called "The Barbie Project". The assignment was to create a look and an inspiration board for a Barbie doll. My Inspiration was 30's Murder mystery. So I made a mini sleeveless trench coat with a fur collar, and a simple slip dress. I decided to make the coat sleeveless when I was sitting In my dorm frustrated that I had to make the worlds smallest sleeve out of fabric that enjoyed fraying every two seconds, and then I looked at the coat and said to my self, wait a minute this looks much more updated with out the sleeves, and it does! I felt that it sort of modernized it (and I was really sick of the mini sleeve making!) So this is what I came up with! My little 30's detective Barbie.

Vintage Fair

I went to a vintage fair this weekend where they had tons of vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories. It was heaven! Unfortunately everything was very expensive so I only came back with one lovely necklace, which I love! So here are a few pictures of some things that I saw there.
 Russian Fur Hat
 Blue fur hemmed coat

My lovely new vintage necklace that I got for a steal of only $10!

Bodies Exhibit Sketches

A couple of my friends and I went to the Bodies Exhibit to do some sketching and this is what I ended up with! They are just rough sketches, but the exhibit was really interesting to look at.

My Next Assignment..

I am fortunate enough to have a school that has a fashion program, which is amazing, but the funny thing is that when I got back from my 6 weeks at RISD, where I made my paper dress (showed in previous post), I showed the pictures to my teacher, and he says, great idea! That should be our next assignment! At first I was like oh God, I spent two sleepless weeks on that dress, how am I going to do that again? But now I am very excited, because I am making my dress out of... Cellophane! And red cellophane at that! Once again here is the drama that I love. I know that is not exactly paper but a little cellophane never hurt anyone did it? So here it goes again, another paper dress! Wish me luck! Pictures coming soon.

Paper Dress

These are a few pictures of a paper dress that I constructed this summer while I was studying fashion design at the pre-college program at RISD. This dress was inspired by thunderstorms, by this I mean the movement and natural theatrics that they have. You will see that I am in love with drama and theatrics.

First post, The Beginning.

I feel as though I am a new fish entering a very large sea, or really, since I am speaking of fashion, a small puppy entering a world of dog-eat-dog. This could seem like a scary thing for most sane people, and it is, but for me it is a fear that I crave to have. At 16 I know what I want to spend every living second of my life doing, I want to be fully immersed in fashion as a designer and potentially an art director. Now I'm not going to go on a whole spiel about how I've known that I have wanted to do this since I could speak or how I feel that I could really contribute to the fashion world (which is all true) but what I want to share with all of you is the most important part, how I get there. So throughout my posts of this blog I will display to you sketches, pictures, and occasional rants along the way of my journey, and I would love your constructive criticism! So, here it is. The very start of the documentation of my life and all of its craziness.
