TIGER EYE

This is the necklace that I got from Kudzu (mentioned in the previous post) It has a tiger eye stone, and is attached to a suede string. I love it because of its very unique qualities and the fact that you can wear it long or short!

KUDZU

Upon one of my hunts for vintage clothing and jewelry, I came across a place called Kudzu Antique Market, it is amazing. The place is bursting at the seams with vintage jewelry, clothing, and everything else antique. It has been there for years and it has almost a museum quality to it in the way of everything there being very unique. Every room has its own special quality and theme, one room would be filled with fur coats and shoes, while another would be filled with funky 60's furniture, or records from throughout the years. Every object there was a good find. I must have spent at least two hours in there, and I only came out with one necklace, even though I wanted to buy a million things! It was a wonderful and fun place to go, and I will definitely keep going back!

CAT LADY

One of the many things that I love are cats, so when I found this cat printed graphic tee I had to get it! Also, black and white is probably my favorite combination of colors to wear, Its very clean and simple, yet it is still very modern and has a bit of an edge to it.

SNAPSHOT

The other day as my dad and I were shuffling through the closet trying to find something, we ended up coming across this vintage Polaroid camera! It is so cool and still fully functioning! I tried taking a few pictures with it today but I can't seem to get it to work, which is very unfortunate because I was so excited to see the results. If my success rate starts to go up I will defiantly put the pictures on here!
Wish me luck with my new discovery!

BEIRUT

Last night I went to the most amazing concert that I have ever been to. They are my favorite band and incredible musicians and If you don't know who they are you are missing out!! They are called Beirut, they play amazing music that will change your life. So last night was their concert and it was incredible! I got there really early so that I could make sure that I was close, and I was! I was standing probably two rows from the stage and the music and energy just consumed me. It was amazing. So after the mind blowing concert I really wanted to meet the lead singer, who also plays a million instruments, Zach Condon. So I dashed into the parking lot over to where the bus was and I see him about to get into the bus, so now Im yelling like a crazy person "wait! wait!!" and he does.  I feel bad for causing a huge scene because the next thing you know there are a million girls around! He was so nice though and didn't seem to mind, he even waited through my mom trying to figure out the camera and accidentally taking a video! So I got a rather funny picture with him and he also signed my CD! So here are some pictures from the concert, and if you don't know Beirut, look them up!

Me and Zach Condon! I was so excited, hence why I look overly ecstatic!

Alexa Chung Inspired

After posting my previous post, I got into the mood to create another layout. So I jumped onto Polyvore and this is what I came up with! I first saw this photo of Alexa Chung and decided to create an outfit based off of the vibe I got from the picture. This outfit is for a high fashion girl who wants both a touch of class and a bit of edge.

The Other Side of Me

In addition to fashion design, I also really like graphic design. The section of graphic design that peaks my interest the most is creating magazine layouts, and art direction. This is a project that I did for school, I created a magazine page talking about the grungy and girly melding of styles. Let me know what you think!

Im Back!

So sorry that I have disappeared for the past few days! I was not feeling well, then I went to the beach and was preoccupied! In addition to everything that has been going on around me, I have been thinking a lot about this summer, fashion, art, and everything else. I just visited one of my friends from RISD and it made me miss everything, and everyone so much! It is so frustrating being a junior in high school and having to focus on putting all of my time and energy into things that frankly I do not care about and really don't want to be doing. Also, It is horrible having no time what so ever to express any of my creative energy. It is stressful because this is the time that I am supposed to be really working and perfecting my skills, but when you don't have any time It can really get pretty aggravating! I am an art student, I love fashion and art and that Is what I want to spend all of my energy on again. I want to focus on the things that I love and the things that are going to be valuable to me in my life and not these things that will be valuable for someone who wants to live a life that is polar opposite to the one I want. I have less than two years left stuck in this position, and while that may not seem like a lot of time It feels like a million years! I am good at being creative, not being stuck in this factory like system that they call high school. I know that I must still continue to focus and work hard on the things I don't want to be doing but Its a lot harder that I thought It would be. But I am going to jump the hurdle and look at it as one of the many obstacles that I will have to face in my life. I have drive and I know what I want and I am not going to let anything get in my way, especially high school. I am an artist I am a designer and I will be creative!

My Next Project

As the fall season begins to emerge so does my next project. I have decided to make a coat! I first decided to make a coat when I was at RISD this summer and we went to the fabric store where I found this amazing blue, black, and white tweed fabric. It was just so cozy and beautiful that I knew that was what I had to do with it! It is my first coat and I do have to admit that I am rather nervous, but I'm the type of person that 1) does not let a challenge pass her by and 2) believes that it is better to learn by doing. So I am just going to jump into the project and hope that everything turns out well! So here is my design for my first coat ever! Wish me luck!

I Left My Heart at RISD

I often reference my summer at RISD where I studied fashion design, but I realize that I never gave any details about it or what I did there. Well, this summer was a life changing experience that I will never forget. Not only did I learn a lot about fashion and art, but I also learned a lot about my self. This summer was when I knew that I had to be in fashion and I could never do anything else. Before I went to RISD I knew I wanted to be in fashion, but the flame for my passion of designing was slowly dying. The moment I got to RISD and was living and breathing art and fashion design the flame grew rapidly inside of me. I was automatically filled with inspiration and creative energy (I probably sound crazy, but ask anyone who has a passion for anything and they will know exactly what I am talking about). When I say fashion makes me crazy, I really mean it. I was up till at least 3:30 AM each day working, yet I have never felt so energized.  I was walking around like a crazy person most of the time, my hair looked crazy, I never had any make up on, yet I miss looking like a mess all the time because it was worth it. (This from a girl who's look is always pulled together.) I was making things that I have never been more proud of and I was surrounded by people that became my family and they are the best friends that I have ever had. (To the Fam... I miss you all and love you like crazy!) Everyone there was filled with creativity and joy about what they were doing, they all had a passion inside of them. It was inspiring. RISD was an amazing experience and I am sure that I will tell you more about it again.

Free Art

This Is something that I did this summer for fun, A few of my friends and I were In the work room till 3AM painting (This is why I love art school). I just wanted to do something really free and with a lot of movement, So I drew a blind contour of one of my jewelry stands with charcoal, and then just started dripping water color down the page, later I added red and white acrylic paint accents.

Figure Drawing
This figure drawing uses a water a color base, pastel accents, and a charcoal blind contour line. Even though this piece isn't very literal, it is my favorite figure drawing that I did all summer. I love it because it has a lot of movement and is very free.

Summer Work

These are a few projects that I was assigned while spending my summer at the pre-college program at RISD

This project was called "The Personal Vision Project". The assignment was to create a line consisting of three pieces, a mood board, and swatch board to go along with it. My line was strongly inspired by the 20's, and peacocks. Now I didn't want to go and make three purple and green flapper dresses but I really wanted to express the feel of the twenties in my clothes, the fun and glamour aspects. I dont like to take my inspirations literally because I feel that it limits my range of design options. As for the peacock inspiration I was thinking more about their natural elegance and beauty and the way that they move (even though peacocks are supposed to be rather vicious creatures, but like I said I'm not taking this literally!) as well as their beautiful colored feathers. Thats why If you take a look at the mood board you will see things like flappers, peacocks, and various symbols of glamour.

 Any Comments or Criticism?

This project was called "The Barbie Project". The assignment was to create a look and an inspiration board for a Barbie doll. My Inspiration was 30's Murder mystery. So I made a mini sleeveless trench coat with a fur collar, and a simple slip dress. I decided to make the coat sleeveless when I was sitting In my dorm frustrated that I had to make the worlds smallest sleeve out of fabric that enjoyed fraying every two seconds, and then I looked at the coat and said to my self, wait a minute this looks much more updated with out the sleeves, and it does! I felt that it sort of modernized it (and I was really sick of the mini sleeve making!) So this is what I came up with! My little 30's detective Barbie.

Vintage Fair

I went to a vintage fair this weekend where they had tons of vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories. It was heaven! Unfortunately everything was very expensive so I only came back with one lovely necklace, which I love! So here are a few pictures of some things that I saw there.
 Russian Fur Hat
 Blue fur hemmed coat

My lovely new vintage necklace that I got for a steal of only $10!

Bodies Exhibit Sketches

A couple of my friends and I went to the Bodies Exhibit to do some sketching and this is what I ended up with! They are just rough sketches, but the exhibit was really interesting to look at.

My Next Assignment..

I am fortunate enough to have a school that has a fashion program, which is amazing, but the funny thing is that when I got back from my 6 weeks at RISD, where I made my paper dress (showed in previous post), I showed the pictures to my teacher, and he says, great idea! That should be our next assignment! At first I was like oh God, I spent two sleepless weeks on that dress, how am I going to do that again? But now I am very excited, because I am making my dress out of... Cellophane! And red cellophane at that! Once again here is the drama that I love. I know that is not exactly paper but a little cellophane never hurt anyone did it? So here it goes again, another paper dress! Wish me luck! Pictures coming soon.

Paper Dress

These are a few pictures of a paper dress that I constructed this summer while I was studying fashion design at the pre-college program at RISD. This dress was inspired by thunderstorms, by this I mean the movement and natural theatrics that they have. You will see that I am in love with drama and theatrics.

First post, The Beginning.

I feel as though I am a new fish entering a very large sea, or really, since I am speaking of fashion, a small puppy entering a world of dog-eat-dog. This could seem like a scary thing for most sane people, and it is, but for me it is a fear that I crave to have. At 16 I know what I want to spend every living second of my life doing, I want to be fully immersed in fashion as a designer and potentially an art director. Now I'm not going to go on a whole spiel about how I've known that I have wanted to do this since I could speak or how I feel that I could really contribute to the fashion world (which is all true) but what I want to share with all of you is the most important part, how I get there. So throughout my posts of this blog I will display to you sketches, pictures, and occasional rants along the way of my journey, and I would love your constructive criticism! So, here it is. The very start of the documentation of my life and all of its craziness.
